Nembrini Audio NA 501 Chorus Echo plugin

video upload by Nembrini Audio

Press release follows:

Nembrini Launch NA501 Chorus Echo Plugin

The Legendary Roland RE-501 Chorus Echo Reborn

8th January 2024: Nembrini Audio launches the NA501 Chorus Echo Plugin. The new, cutting edge plugin enabling musicians and producers to rediscover the legendary analog warmth, authentic spring reverb, classic tape delay and lush BBD chorus of the iconic Roland RE-501 Chorus Echo*. Listen to it here or watch the launch video https://youtu.be/9nAYmr3EfR8.

Released in 1982, the renowned Roland RE-501 Chorus Echo was the last of Roland’s line of electro-mechanical effects processors. The ‘box’ contained a special tape recorder to create delay effects or ‘echoes’ alongside a spring reverb and chorus effect. The unique design of unit allowed the longer tape to move freely making the echo sounds longer and cleaner. The coveted RE-501, highly sought after for its colourful character and richness of sound was used by Bob Marley to create deep, throbbing echoes and Radiohead to produce pitch-shifting effects.

The NA 501 Chorus Echo is an innovative digital re-interpretation of the sought after Roland RE-501 Chorus Echo. It faithfully captures the complex essence of the mechanical and electronic component interactions of one of the most notable tape delays ever designed. By extending the original design with modern functionality, enhanced control and flexibility and allowing it to fit seamlessly into today’s digital work stations, the NA 501 Chorus Echo plugin goes beyond mere emulation.

The authentic sound of the meticulously modelled plugin is ideal for adding rich analog textures to any genre of music and is a versatile tool for musicians and producers seeking a classic sound with contemporary workability. The extended creative controls of NA 501 Chorus Echo along with its intuitive user interface make it easy for users to recreate the impression that the echoes are receding rather than simply getting quieter.

The new plugin is currently on offer at until 31st January 2024. The desktop version introductory price is $29.99 rising to $99 and the iOS version $7.99 increasing to $14.99 after the promotion ends. NA 501 Chorus Echo is PC, Mac and iOS (VST2, VST3, AU, AAX and AUv3) compatible and requires a FREE iLOK account.

Cherry Audio Quadra demo tune—The Four

video upload by boxoftextures

"Recently got Quadra from Cherry Audio, a modern software recreation of the ARP Quadra. In a way it's a pretty limited instrument, but that's what the Quadra was. You got four basic elements—bass, strings, poly synth, and lead synth—and they all had a few controls for each, some more than others. The beauty of the Quadra was that for the price of one instrument you had access to all of those sounds, so in a sense it was a real bargain back in the day.

The Cherry Audio Quadra does a good job of recreating the instrument, and it adds a number of things, as usual. There are more effects modules, an arpeggiator, and programmable keyboard zones for separate or overlapping sounds, for example. And pitch and mod wheels (!). And the thing sounds darn good.

This tune was originally supposed to be just the four pure tracks, one for each of the Quadra sections, all my own patches of course. But I couldn't leave it be and had to add a fifth track with another lead section, and I couldn't leave well enough alone and had to make it an impure not-Quadra-only track by adding a pedalboard and a Nembrini Audio Sound Master amp simulator. Just had to get that biting lead sound. Because that's how I roll. As usual. And I make no apologies for it either!

So bottom line, Quadra from Cherry Audio sounds great. I never had an ARP Quadra back in the day, but now I've got those sounds.

Propellerhead RE Eurorack Module Powered by MIND Music Labs ELK MusicOS

Yesterday, we were introduced to the MIND Music Labs ‘Powered by ELK’ Retrologue 2 Desktop Synth. Pictured left in the rack you can also see a Propellerhead RE eurorack module powered by ELK MusicOS. Check out what appears to be a prototype desktop VST host unit in orange. The following is the MIND Music Labs press release for SUPERBOOTH 19:

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: Swedish startup MIND Music Labs lets loose by showcasing several super-cool applications of its award- winning ELK MusicOS — the world’s first ultra-low-latency music operating system developed specifically for audio applications, ushering in a new era where the power, flexibility, and selection of audio and music software can be run in real time on embedded hardware with full MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) support — at SUPERBOOTH19 in Berlin, May 9-11…

Further fulfilling its ambition of creating new ways to bridge the gap between musicians and technology, changing how to learn, create, record, and share music, MIND Music Labs will be demonstrating the potential and flexibility of its seminal ELK MusicOS by showcasing a number of hardware product prototypes based on existing VST (Virtual Instrument Technology) and RE (Rack Extension) releases from world-class developers at SUPERBOOTH19, Europe’s first and largest trade fair for electronic musical instruments.

First stop: media production products provider Steinberg’s stand on owner Yamaha’s booth (H310). Here the German giant continues its partnership with MIND Music Labs in making VST a standard for hardware by showcasing the co-developed ‘Powered by ELK’ Retrologue 2, a proof-of-concept prototype desktop synth running Retrologue 2, Steinberg’s VST Virtual Analog Synthesizer — successfully emulating the warmth and fatness of classic analog synthesizers — on hardware.

However, ELK MusicOS is not only VST compatible but also runs RE plug-ins from fellow Swedish company Propellerhead, creators of innovative and affordable music software. Supporting the Propellerhead partnership, MIND Music Labs will be showcasing a Eurorack format synth module running the RE-compatible Polysix for Reason — utilising Korg’s proprietary CMT (Component Modeling Technology) to precisely model the circuitry of an analog polysynth classic from 1982 — on booth (O504).

Other must-see SUPERBOOTH19 showcases scheduled to take place at MIND Music Labs’ location there include several contrasting conceptual collaborative projects with the likes of plug-in developer Stefano D’Angelo, former DSP engineer at Arturia; Italian music and audio software company Audio Modeling, creators of the SWAM (Synchronous Waves Acoustic Modeling) engine; HISE, an open source framework for sample-based instruments; and Igor Nembrini of Nembrini Audio, creator of some of the most revered guitar amp plug-ins under the Brainworx brand for Universal Audio's UAD (Universal Audio Digital) platform.

Concludes MIND Music Labs CEO Michele Benincaso: “The different hardware prototypes we will be showcasing at SUPERBOOTH19 are all great examples of what ELK MusicOS is capable of. With ELK MusicOS you add the feel of playing an actual physical instrument — without losing the benefits and qualities of desktop plug-ins. I am very excited to show everyone at SUPERBOOTH19 what we have been working on.”
